'Twas the Nightmare Before the Christmas Party

Posted on October 31, 2017 by AUTHOR (edit in theme settings)

What to wear to a Christmas or New Year’s party/event can be one of the biggest fashion nightmares! This time of year should stir up much joy in us. The family gatherings, friend get-togethers, office parties, and holiday galas give all of us something to look forward to. However, have you ever wondered what attire you should wear to that special event? You may ask yourself' "I don't want to show up over-dressed, under-dressed, or out-of-fashion." Showing up decked out in an ugly Christmas sweater when everyone else at the event is wearing cocktail dresses can feel horrifying.  I have noticed that even when "experts" in the fashion etiquette field are asked about event dressing, they often preface their answers with "usually".  I am hoping that I can clear up that "what should I wear" confusion with this simple list & fashion forward examples that follow.

 MOST formal to LEAST formal:

  1. WHITE TIE - Long, floor length formal evening gown.
  2. BLACK TIE - Floor length evening gown or your dressiest cocktail dress.
  3. CREATIVE BLACK TIE - Floor length evening gown or dressiest cocktail dress with creative, fun accessories.
  4. BLACK TIE OPTIONAL - Floor length gown, dressy cocktail dress, dressy little black dress, or dressy separates.
  5. SEMI-FORMAL - Short cocktail dress, little black dress, long dressy skirt and blouse, or dressy separates.
  6. FESTIVE ATTIRE (usually for the holiday season) - Cocktail dress, little black dress, long dressy skirt and dressy pants outfit, dressy separates, holiday accessories and colors.
  7. BUSINESS FORMAL - Suit, business style dress (structure), dress with a jacket, low or high heels (always abide by your company's dress code)
  8. BUSINESS CASUAL – Skirt, pants, open collar shirt, knit shirt, or sweater, casual style dress (typically no spaghetti straps or low necklines).
  9. DRESSY CASUAL - Dress, skirt, or slacks and dressy top, nice jeans and a dressy top.
  10. CASUAL - Sundress, short or long skirt, khakis or nice jeans, shorts are dependent on                              climate and occasion, plain t-shirt or polo

When styling for your next Christmas or holiday event, remember to keep it classy. If you want to look festive, by all means go for it but keep it simple. For instance, if you are wearing a holiday accessory, wear one fun piece, don’t overdo it. When wearing sequined separates, be sure to break up the shine with a neutral piece. Always play up the special elements of each ensemble. Ask yourself, “What part of this outfit do I want to emphasize?”

As you look forward to 2018, rich, luxurious fabrics will adorn boutiques. Velvets, brocades, satins, and metallic laces will be helping you ring in the new year! ENJOY!

All the following dresses may be found at GGM:

The intricate lace of this gown creates a very formal look for any white or black tie event. The lace is embroidered with metallic thread and crystals for a vintage yet stunning design.

Off-the-shoulder necklines are still all the rage this season! This sihlouette would be appropriate for any white or black tie occasion.

Sequins and velvet are back and perfect for your holiday cocktail parties!  The sequins on this burgundy cocktail dress (left) create a figure-flattering allover pattern.  On the right, an a-line delicately embroidered tulle skirt is topped with a rich black velvet halter for an upscale LBD!

This strapless cocktail dress is constructed of a beautiful brocade fabric. Brocade fabrics add texture and interest to a dress. It “dresses up” a piece without the added beads and sequins.

They're Back.....Prints that is...

Posted on October 25, 2014 by AUTHOR (edit in theme settings)

When most girls think about prints, prom dresses are not the first clothing item you imagine. For those of us that look back on our (or our friends) printed prom dresses from about 5 years ago, or so, we think of putrid tie dyes and in your face flower power. Believe it or not, prints have made quite a comeback this year. Despite the couple of years prints took a turn for the worse and ruined many group pictures, they have resurfaced- in a VERY GOOD way!

The prints we are seeing on the runway today are refreshing and individual. They can truly capture an attitude or era you relate to. Talk about a great opportunity for you to truly release your inner diva!

For example; floral this year is very vintage and soft, it’s romantic and feminine. Another trendy print that is taking off (and my personal favorite) is the Aztec/tribal look. For a girl with a wild, earthy side, who is drawn to design, color, and likes something outside of the box, Tribal is the perfect solution.
How about animal print? When you take a timeless leopard print, pair it with hot pink or black and put it in a gorgeous ball gown or fit and flair you have a winner! Who doesn’t love a statement like animal print to let the world know ‘I am fierce’!

Prom is just around the corner ladies! It is good to start thinking and planning ahead. Prom is such a great occasion to step out of the box and show up in something that really inspires you and tells the world who you really are. Let one of our many new prints help you send out that message.

Prom Dress Hangover

Posted on May 03, 2014 by AUTHOR (edit in theme settings)

Prom season has come and gone for many girls. It was a much anticipated evening with all the time, money, energy, and planning that went into the big event. At some points you might have almost felt like you were planning your wedding!
Everyone knows that a major player on Prom night was the dress. As girls, we do research, we search designer websites, we discuss our options and thoughts with friends, visit shop after shop, try on dress after dress until we find “the one”. Once you found it, you just knew it was meant to be. The first time you slipped it on and saw yourself in the mirror, you instantly envisioned the look on everyone’s face when they saw you in it. You envisioned the hundreds of pictures taken (and would later be posted on Instagram and Facebook) of you and your gown. You could hear the complements that were to be said about how gorgeous your dress was.
Basically, you knew you would be as glamorous as a movie star at the Academy Awards!
Now that the craziness is over and your dress hangs there helplessly in your closet, you might be asking yourself the question “what will I do with this dress now?” After all, you kind of bonded with your prom dress, right?
So, now what?
Here are a few options you might find helpful in figuring out the fate of your fabulous gown.
Option 1: Whether or not you are planning on keeping your prom dress or not, it is highly recommended that you take your dress somewhere reliable to have it dry cleaned. After all, you eventually took a shower after prom right? One company we recommend it Diamond Cleaners INC in Tulsa. They are located off 21st street between Sheridan and Yale. Not only are they super dependable and honest but they use eco friendly products! It’s a win win!

Options 2: College is just around the corner and a great option for many girls is to have your dress taken up/hemmed and made into a short cocktail/semiformal dress. Just think, it would be one of a kind and you would have a great excuse to show off your gown again. Chrystal’s Sewing Boutique has taken up so many dresses that Chrystal herself could do it in her sleep! Her boutique is located off of Main Street Broken Arrow.

Option 3: If you are willing to give someone else the opportunity to have a beautiful night in your beautiful dress, donating or consigning your dress is a good option. Consigning your dress would allow you to make some of your money back you spent on the dress and donating it would give you the satisfaction of just being a good person.
